Management Development Programme for Women in Renewable Energy (MDP)
The Management Development Programme for Women in Renewable Energy was launched in 2023 to address the leadership and skills gap within South Africa's renewable energy sector and to accelerate the advancement of women into senior leadership positions.
Designed by Wits Business School and led by the South African Wind Energy Association (SAWEA) through its Social Impact Standing Committee, in partnership with the Energy and Water Sector Education and Training Authority (EWSETA), the programme equips women professionals with the skills, knowledge, and networks needed to thrive in a rapidly evolving energy landscape.
Delivered over a nine-month period, the programme combines academic rigour with practical leadership development. The curriculum focuses on key areas including self-development, strategic management, business model innovation, design thinking, people management, and leadership. Participants also have access to a range of electives tailored to the needs and opportunities within the renewable energy sector.
By investing in the development of women leaders, the programme contributes to building a more diverse, inclusive, and sustainable renewable energy industry in South Africa.
