South Africa to increase green energy capacity
South Africa's national power utility recently announced stage two loads shedding which resulted in rolling blackouts across all of the country's major metros this past week. South Africa's government has sited renewable energy as key to combating the energy shortage in partnership with the private sector under the independent power producers programme. Currently less than one percent of South Africa's power is derived from renewables but going forward the government plans to significantly increase the country's green energy capacity.
